Private Boat Tour Amalfi Coast Prices: What You Pay Per Boat

Private boat tour Amalfi Coast prices confuse travellers because almost every operator quotes per boat, not per person. This page sets out the real figures in euros with a dollar conversion, lists what changes the price, and shows where a private boat beats a shared seat. A sunset cruise starts at EUR 350 and a full Amalfi Coast day runs EUR 800 to 1,500 per boat, before extras. Start with the full range of private boat tour Amalfi Coast listings, then work down the ladder by trip length, boat class and group size.

Quick answer Price ranges per boat

A private boat tour on the Amalfi Coast is priced per boat, not per person. A 2 hour speedboat starts at EUR 300 (about $336), a sunset cruise runs EUR 350-600, a half day EUR 500-1,200, a full day EUR 800-1,500, and a Capri day EUR 1,000-2,400. The dollar figures use the ECB rate of about $1.12 per euro. Skipper, fuel, towels, drinks and snorkel gear are included on most skippered tours, but fuel is excluded on some Sorrento listings, so ask in writing.

Key takeaways

Private Boat Tour Prices By Length Of Trip

The clearest way to read Amalfi Coast private boat prices is by the hours you book. Two Positano operators publish a full per-boat ladder, and price guides give the typical bands around them.

The Ladder From Two Hours To A Capri Day

The table compares trip formats side by side. Positano Boats and Luxury Boats Positano publish their prices openly in euros per boat, and the Bluekeys guide gives the typical market bands for gozzo trips. All figures are per boat for the whole vessel.

The spread is wide. A half day can cost EUR 500 on one boat and EUR 1,200 on another, because boat class, departure port and group limit all move the number. Use the ladder to frame offers, then check each listing's own inclusions.

What A Boat Costs By Type

Boat class is the second price driver after hours. The same seven hours costs far less on a small gozzo than on a crewed yacht.

Gozzo, Speedboat, Cabin Cruiser And Yacht

The gozzo is the coast's workhorse, 7-10 m long, carrying about 6-12 passengers, at EUR 800-1,200 for a full day. Speedboats and RIBs are smaller and faster, taking 6-8 guests, and start cheaper. Cabin cruisers carry 8-12. A luxury yacht of 12-18 m runs EUR 1,500-3,500 per full day, and Amalfi Coast Dream quotes luxury yachts from EUR 4,500 (about $5,040).

This site lists skippered gozzo and speedboat days only. It does not sell yacht charters, so treat the yacht figures as market ranges from price guides and operator pages.

Price Per Person By Group Size

Because the price is per boat, the per-head figure falls fast as the group grows. The maths below uses only listings that state both a per-boat price and a group limit.

What Couples, Fours And Sixes Pay Each

Two bookable listings state a per-boat price with a group of up to 6, so the per-head figures are straightforward. The four-hour Positano gozzo at $763 per boat is about $381.50 each for two and $127.17 each for six. The seven-hour Positano or Praiano gozzo at $1,233 per boat is about $616.50 each for two and $205.50 each for six.

In euros, amalficoast.boats worked the same sums on a EUR 715 six-hour boat: EUR 357.50 each for two, EUR 89.38 each for eight. That brings the private cost close to a shared seat once the boat is full.

What Is Included And What You Pay On Top

Two tours with the same headline price can end up far apart once fuel, grotto tickets and lunch are counted. Read the inclusion list before comparing euros.

The Include And Exclude Matrix

Most skippered private tours include the skipper, fuel, taxes, towels, soft drinks and snorkel gear. Positano Boats also includes mooring. Lunch is rarely included.

Fuel is the big variable: it is excluded on two of ten Sorrento-listed motorboat tours (one at EUR 1,018, one at EUR 1,868) and one Maiori gozzo option adds EUR 100 for fuel on the day. Ask about fuel in writing before you pay a deposit.

Mooring and port taxesoften includedask who pays at Capri Marina Grande or Amalfi
Towels, drinks, snorkel gearincluded on most toursnot stated
Lunchnot includedEUR 25-50 ashore or EUR 15-25 catered on board

A Worked Full Day For Six Guests

Take a six-guest full day on a boat at EUR 1,500 (about $1,680). The Blue Grotto costs about EUR 18-19 per person in cash, because the rowboat fee is about EUR 13 and the site ticket EUR 6. The Emerald Grotto ticket runs EUR 5-10. The Capri landing tax, if the day crosses to the island, is EUR 5 per person from 1 April to 31 October. Lunch ashore adds EUR 25-50 each, and a tip of EUR 20-50 covers the crew for the day.

A couple of easy checks keep the total honest: confirm fuel is in the fare, and confirm who pays mooring at Capri or Amalfi before the balance is due.

Capri Costs More: How Much

Adding Capri to the day is the biggest single price step on the coast. The extra crossing time and fuel show up directly in the quote.

The Step-Up Over An Amalfi Day

At Positano Boats, a seven-hour Amalfi Coast day costs EUR 1,500, the eight-hour Capri day EUR 1,780 with a six-guest limit, and the combined Amalfi Coast plus Capri eight-hour day EUR 2,400. At Luxury Boats Positano the same ladder runs EUR 1,500, 1,600 and 2,000. The step-up works out at EUR 280 to EUR 900 over a mainland day.

A Capri day needs at least six hours. The crossing takes about 40 minutes from Sorrento, 50 from Positano and 75 from Amalfi by private boat. The Blue Grotto needs a rowboat transfer outside, because the cave mouth is about 2 m wide and 1 m high, so a private boat cannot enter. See the route detail in the Capri section.

Prices By Month

Season moves private boat prices by up to a fifth in either direction, and it changes the sea you get as well as the bill.

The Season Swing And The Sea

One Italian price guide puts the swing against the standard rate at minus 20 percent in April, minus 10 in May, standard in June, plus 10-20 in July, plus 20 in August, minus 10 in September and minus 20 in October. Operators differ: Positano Boats charges EUR 300 low season and EUR 320 high season on its two-hour speedboat, a swing of only about 7 percent. Rental platforms show a wider spread, averaging $292 a day in low season against $1,323 in high.

Sea temperature matters for swim stops. The water sits at 16-17C in April, 22-24C in June, 26-27C in August and 21-23C in October. Mornings are calmer, so a 09:00 departure beats a 13:00 one, and the afternoon north-westerly of 10-15 knots makes the Positano-Capri leg uncomfortable.

Private, Shared Seat Or Ferry: Which Is Cheaper

The three ways onto the water sit at very different prices, and the break-even point between a private boat and a shared seat is easy to calculate.

Where Private Pays Off

Shared boat seats cost EUR 60-90 for a half day, EUR 90-140 for a full day or Capri, and EUR 50-80 at sunset, with Positano departures from EUR 50 per person on one operator page. The public ferry is transport only: Positano to Amalfi costs EUR 10-14 one way, 20-25 minutes, with no cove stops.

The break-even lands at about eight guests. A EUR 680 private boat works out at EUR 85 each for eight, just under the EUR 86-95 shared seats amalficoast.boats lists. Below eight, a private boat costs more per head but buys the route, the timing and the swim stops. The comparison of shared seats and listings sits in the private boat tour Amalfi Coast price section.

Renting A Boat Without A Skipper

Self-drive hire is a separate market from skippered private tours, and cheaper per day, but it comes with legal limits.

Licence-Free Rules And Prices

In Italy you can drive a boat with no licence if the hull is under 10 m, the engine is at most 40.8 hp, and you stay within 6 nautical miles of the coast. Fines outside those limits are reported at EUR 2,066-8,263. Licence-free and bareboat hire starts from EUR 350 (about $392) for half a day, and fuel is paid on what you used at the end of the day. On Click&Boat, skippered charters are listed at about $842 for four hours and $1,137 for a full day, and a skipper adds about $100 a day on a bareboat rental.

This site lists skippered private tours only, because the licence rule and the fuel accounting are exactly the two things most visitors would rather hand over.

Booking, Deposit And Cancellation

Price is only half the deal. Lead time, deposit and the cancellation window decide how much risk you carry.

When To Book And What Happens If You Cancel

Book two to four weeks ahead. The port-specific guidance is tighter: about 1-2 weeks of lead time needed in June, 3-4 in July and 4 or more in August, when a moved date is hard to replace in the same week.

Cancellation terms differ by operator. Positano Boats refunds in full at 7 or more days, 50 percent at 3-6 days and nothing at 2 days or less. Skippered charters on Click&Boat refund in full 24 hours or more before start, service fees apart. In bad weather the pattern is a full refund or a reschedule at the captain's discretion, since navigation in dangerous conditions is prohibited. Deposits vary: one Ischia example takes EUR 150 on a EUR 2,000 tour with the EUR 1,850 balance on the day, at least EUR 500 of it in cash. Each listing card shows its own cancellation window.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is an Amalfi Coast boat tour?

Per boat: from EUR 300 for a two-hour speedboat to EUR 800-1,500 for a full day and EUR 1,000-2,400 with Capri. The full breakdown is in the price ladder.

How much does it cost to charter a yacht on the Amalfi Coast?

A 12-18 m yacht runs EUR 1,500-3,500 per full day, and Amalfi Coast Dream quotes from EUR 4,500. The ranges are in the boat type section.

Is fuel included in a private boat tour price?

Usually yes on skippered tours, but fuel is excluded on two of ten Sorrento listings, up to EUR 300-350, so ask in writing. The details are in the inclusions section.

What does a private boat cost per person?

Divide the per-boat price by your group: $763 per boat for the four-hour Positano gozzo is about $127.17 each for six, and a EUR 715 boat is EUR 89.38 each for eight. The full table is in the per-head section.

Do I need a licence to rent a boat on the Amalfi Coast?

Not if the hull is under 10 m, the engine is at most 40.8 hp and you stay within 6 nautical miles of the coast, from EUR 350 for half a day. The rules are in the self-drive section.

How far ahead should I book a private boat tour?

Two to four weeks, stretching to four or more weeks for August. The windows and cancellation terms are in the booking section.

Is a private boat worth it instead of a shared tour?
